- Flight-Deck Avionics Continues As The Clear Choice For Avionics Retrofit -

Flight-Deck Avionics has completed another great EFIS cockpit, just in time for Spring.  As you'll see in the before photo (scroll down to view), this 1967 Cessna 320 Skynight bared 45 years worth of scars from many installations and clearly showed its age.  Flight-Deck began this project in a very familiar way - with completely redesigned and custom fabricated instrument panels.  Garmins G500 Retrofit PFD/MFD System with Synthetic Vision was chosen as the primary instrumentation package.  The installed avionics suite, includes a Garmin GMA340 Audio Panel with 6-place stereo intercom, GNS430W WAAS-GPS/NAV/COM system, Bendix/King KX165 NAV/COM, and Garmins GTX327 Mode A/C Transponder.  Flight-Deck engineered and fabricated an innovative mounting solution for a Garmin GPSMAP 696.  The mount is machined from billet aluminum and swivels 60 degrees toward the pilot, for optimal viewing.  The GPSMAP 696 is interfaced with the aircraft avionics DC bus and receives cross-filled flight-plan data from the GNS430W unit.  The lower sub-panels were touched up in flat-black, a new aluminum upper switch panel was fabricated, and the glare-shield was wrapped in upholstery to finish the job.  Stay tuned - This rejuvenated twin will be back for an autopilot upgrade next winter.

Project Comments -

The ability to replace analog instrumentation, allowed us to create a flowing, intuative instrument panel design, reducing pilot workload.  The GPSS Roll Steering feature (included in Garmin's G600 PFD/MFD) has given the aging Century IV autopilot in this aircraft, a reason to stick around.  Keeping the owners closely informed and encouraging their involvment in the design and layout of their new cockpit, has created a super relationship with our new long-term client and has increased our reputation for excellent customer service.

Preinstallation -

This Cessna T210L arrived with a mixture of outdated avionics and equipment.  The cockpit bared the scars from too many installations and years of faithful service.  Surprisingly, the glareshield mounted audio switches operated without defect for 37 years, kudos Cessna!
